Xindak cables: how good are they?
Yeah, it's a crazy hobby, and diminishing returns are always at play. You pay a lot for that last little bit. I could never defend it rationally, but when you hear something you like better it's hard to go back. For me, the Conciertos are worth it...
Xindak cables: how good are they?
BaranyiI think the Xindaks are pretty good for the prices they actually sell for. Their retail listing is artificial/inflated, but the street price makes it a contender IMO. I bought some FS-2 to try out in a second system, and haven't been disapp...
On the fence with the Consonance CD-120
I've got one in my second system and couldn't be happier (for now anyway). It's extended and detailed and dynamic and clean and has good bass control. If your system's toward the clinical side I'd look elsewhere, but if reasonably well balanced or...
CD player for a warm system
Consider the Opera Consonance CD-120. It's very detailed without etch or grain and can easily be found in your price range used or demo.It uses a modified Philips VAM1202 drive mechanism, and the Crystal CS4396KS. It's a 24/192 upsampler. RCA &...
Subwoofer for two channel system
The VBT (aka TBI) Magellan VIII is another good option that meets your criteria. Very tuneful bass that doesn't get in the way, and has a small visual impact. I'd recommend a pair if you can swing it, and place them in the corners. I believe they ...
van morrison's best sounding album?
Sorry to confuse you more, but I'll go on record for "Hymns to the Silence" and "How long has this been going on?"
Some digital comparisons: cables,transports&jitter
Jea48,I did try a Nordost glass Toslink (sorry, forgot to mention). It was a little bright and 'tipped up' for my taste in this system (the Toslink input in the Tact only upsamples to 96; the others do 192). While quite airy and detailed, it didn'...
5 CD's on your current "permanent " rotation.
1) Dick Hyman "From the Age of Swing"2) Livingston Taylor "Ink"3) Jeannie Bryson "Some Cats Know"4) Oscar Peterson "Quiet Now"5) Ali Akbar Khan "Journey"Plus there always seems to be a Shirley Horn, Strunz & Farrah, Andre Previn or Stephane Gr...
platinum audio solo's
I use Platinum Solos in my home studio with a Mac G4 and Digidesign 001. For reference, I have 5 systems at home with speaker systems ranging in value from $1,100-$12,000.The Solos sound really good in my set-up. They are smooth and unfatigueing w...
Sony S7700, S7000, or ??? best low cost transport?
A dissenting opinion:For the used prices the 7000 & 7700 are going for they're hard to beat as transports.Sure, an expensive transport like a CEC or SCD-1 will better it, but when modded (totalMy 7000 is stock and my 7700 is Modwright modified...
Should Genesis V's be toed-in?
I owned Genesis V for a couple years and liked them better straight ahead, provided you can sit far enough back for proper integration (~9'). Sidewall reflections are less of a concern with dipoles. YMMV.
Suggested speakers to take the place of Dunlavy
I also liked the Dunlavy V, and owned Dunlavy Alethas for a while but sold them in favor of Genesis V, obviously a different technology and sound, especially in the space and air departments. If you're interested I gave my comparative impressions ...
Talon Raven-C Owners please help
I'm using Talon Khorus with a Gamut SS amp, but never found them too hot on top. Had Analysis Plus Silvers for a while, and found them lacking drive--have used a lot of others including Satoris and Wireworld Silver Eclipse 3 and Talon Ghost cable ...
Wi Fi and Hi Fi
One more option to consider: using the phone line (after the fact). I have a high-speed cable feed entering a router that then goes into a nearby phone jack which can be accessed through any other phone jack in the house.
Cable Suggestions for my system?
May be hard to beat the Silversmiths, but another cable to put on your list is the HMS Gran Finale. They replaced silver cables in my (solid state) system and actually gave more detail, but in a distinctly musical way, without any grain, etch, or ...
