What a sad world we now live in....... The only thing a store can offer over the 'Net is instant gratification - if what music one desires is on the shelf/bin! And of course, the matter of sales tax!
What a sad world we now live in....... I do all my CD and LP shopping on EBay. I usually buy used. Thousands of titles available! Most any music one wants can be found via a smartphone! And often with free shipping! No need to travel to a store and look through a limited stock. This ...
Contrast audio MODEL ONE (Grizzly Works). Quite an epistle there, contrastaudioua! As the builder/seller you are justifiably proud of your new creation! However, a more neutral review is called for!
How do you know when tubes are done? Speakers were the Quad 57's. The AA100 was purchased from the original owner/builder (who built it in 1963!). So the 7591 output tubes already had plenty of use when I got it ($25!). He even gave me the construction manual! After I put some more u...
How do you know when tubes are done? Having a good tube tester on hand is recommended! That way cathode emissions can be checked before the getter flash goes increasingly brown. When emissions fall below 50% that is time to replace tubes!
How do you know when tubes are done? Tubes are finished when the silver getter flash turns brown. I ran a set of four 7591's in a Heathkit AA100 integrated amp for years until this happened. Background noise increased under the music. I ended up discarding that set of output tubes an...
Speaker Clarifiers? As effective as copper wristbands for treating arthritis of the hands! Another example of Flat Earth Science to befuddle the gullible!
Most “disappeared” speakers. Ohm Sound Cylinders will embarrass all the touted, expensive box speakers! Expansive, room-filling 3-D sound. Beats Magneplanars! An astonishing speaker - I have a pair! Sadly not given any love from the snob-appeal crowd. Maybe if they came in a ...
H.H Scott 460A Integrated Amp I'd take an original NAD 3020 (1978) any time over any transistor Scott! Tube gear (amps, preamps, integrateds) were H.H.Scotts forte! Search for and buy a nicely restored Scott 233 or 299 integrated tube amp (I have two!). Alternatively a nicely ...
looking for ideas on must have classical music Four by Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony on RCA Living Stereo worth acquiring: 1) Also Sprach Zarathustra - R.Strauss, 2) Concerto For Orchestra - Bela Bartok, 3) The Pines And Fountains Of Rome - Ottorino Resphigi, 4) Pictures At An Exhibiti...
looking for ideas on must have classical music Bela Bartok: Music For Strings, Percussion and Celesta. Ozawa and the Boston Symphony. Deutsche Grammaphon 1977. A lively and thrilling performance! An alternate would be Fritz Reiner's with the Chicago Symphony on RCA Living Stereo.
looking for ideas on must have classical music Ein Heldenleben (A Hero's Life) by Richard Strauss. Herbert Von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic - Deutsche Grammaphone Original Classics - 1958. His first and best stereo recording of this R.Strauss masterpiece!
Bought some `Vintage Gear` I like vintage gear - especially tubes, turntables and LPs! Present day stuff doesn't interest me much. Most of it is way overpriced! Best bang-for-buck is used gear!
Bought some `Vintage Gear` The rarest speakers are (besides two pair of Quad 57's and Rogers LS3/5A's) the KLH Nines. Presently lacking space to set them up properly. They would be a good match with the mono Futterman's!
Bought some `Vintage Gear` The oldest tube receiver I have is a 1920's Fadel "coffin" AM. This is awaiting restoration! |
