ss replacement for my SET tubes and Egglestons? Hi Charles,I agree that you would never swap-out a SET amp for a SS amp and think you were still listening to a SET amp.But I am wondering whether a 'system' can have all the characteristics of a SET amp, while using a SS amp. Emphasis on the whol...
ss replacement for my SET tubes and Egglestons? Charles,Do you think it would every be imaginable, that with the correct tubed preamp and the correct cabling and the correct power conditioning, that a SS-based system could rival a SET-based system?I'm not saying it is easy nor inexpensive, but ...
Dump the Wadia 781? I would do whatever Steve at GNSC recommends. He's been through this before and would be aware of supply issues. Personally, i'm not that worried and I'd prefer Wadia over DCS unless looking for the highest res inputs.
Has anyone heard the Magico Q7 yet? I'm curious to know how many of these will make it into people's homes. Excluding dealers and reviewers, what's the market for a $165k speaker?

Mono blocks that can provide that golden sound... I think warm-up time is a constant for any piece of equipment. One or two hours is relatively short compared to other solid state amplifiers. I had the X.5 series, and those required 6-8 hours, and really sounded their best after 12-24 hours. The ...
Pass XA Monoblock Amps I agree with "some people". Get the XA160.5s. Particularly if you like orchestral music. It's not just about loudness, but playing complex and large pieces without strain. I also have 91 dB sensitivity speakers into 4 ohms, and I can still get the...
sound difference MIT ORACLE AC1 vs ELROD vs PURIST Just another one to consider, I was planning and ready to go with the latest Elrods. But I heard NVS Sound, and stubmled upon something really special. That said, I think both the NVS and Elrod Gold had the largest and most profound effect on the s...

Magico Room at RAMF How good did it sound Ramzika, It's just amazing what one reads on this site. I never knew a nice cabinet was a liability and detraction from a speaker. Kitchen cabinets? Oh well, such is life. If someone was giving away money to whomever asks, I'm sure there would be ...
Best Solid State Amp w/ Avalon Eidolon Diamonds The most remarkable part of the leap from the Indras to the Eidelon Diamonds will be the tweeters. The diamond tweeter is absolutely phenomenal in its ability to convey unlimited high frequency with total cohesiveness with the other drivers. When ...
Piano Notes On Harbeth SHL 5 If it doesn't sound natural, then by definition, it isn't. Only you can decide what is natural. The piano is very difficult to reproduce on a stereo. I would never describe a real piano as sounding thick, regardless of manufacturer. The upper frequ...
Best Mullard 5AR4/GZ34? Metal bases, fat bases, brown bases, double getters, Bugle Boy, fake tubes.... It's enough to make your head spin.In any event, seems that Mullard/Blackburn vintage late 50s to early 60s are the ones to get. |
