World's Best Stereo System ?...
It can't be the world's best stereo system because I have the world's best stereo system.
Is there anything better than live recordings?
What's better than a live recording is a live recording that YOU engineered.  Having spent some time doing location recording, you've learned what works and have brought it home.  When you play it back at home and it feels like it did live, THEN y...
Want to add vinyl to my system.
Clearly you have money to burn.  Lots of it. Rega is a great choice as a "plug-n-play" deck, especially if you get a Rega cartrdige.  Their arms are engineered to work with their cartridges.  Anyone else's cartridge may take some serious work to ...
Hi-end audio is a big zero
This is a 1st World problem.  Y'all are buying your hi-fi gear the same way you buy your luxury cars.  I suppose a sense of entitlement goes with the crazy prices being spent on this stuff. Years ago I went into an audio salon in Berkeley to audi...
Open Baffle Experience
This whole discussion has all been about open baffle merits, referencing the Linkwitz designs. What’s been totally missing from the discussion is the merits of active amplification. All of the Linkwitz designs use active amplification. Very few, i...
Considering Towers in the $3000 range
If you're on the East Coast, your best value at $3000 is this set of Linkwitz Orions.
Most economical way to ship large speakers?
I'm in the middle of moving to Hawaii.  I packed my floor standing loudspeakers by first wrapping them in the large plastic wrap you get from OfficeMax.  Then adding a couple layers of bubble wrap.  Then I put each of them in a wardrobe carton and...
Why do so many members seem afraid of making an audio decision?
@ghdprentice    There are a couple of ways to go DIY.  It's great fun to do your own engineering.  You learn a great deal.  But you can always let someone else do the engineering and you just build their design.  You suggest that a DIY guy isn't...
Why do so many members seem afraid of making an audio decision?
As others have said here, we are hesitant because of the money involved and the cost of mistakes.  This is supposed to be enjoyable, not a worry.  You're supposed to love what you're doing, not agonize over the reality that perfection is unattaina...
What is the best non-conditioning surge protector
This Belkin surge protector is what I use for my audio, video and computer gear. It may not be expensive enough for y’all who think they have to drop $2000 or more for your components, but it does the job of surge protection right. Do your homewor...
DSP vs. active analog crossover vs. passive analog crossover. What is your take?
Here's WHY active crossovers are so very much better than passive. A single loudspeaker driver is an inductor, and provides a frequency dependent, reactive load to an amplifier. Looking at the image here, the blue line on the bottom is the frequen...
The new dynamic in speaker pricing
When you're a billionaire oligarch, you HAVE to have loudspeakers like this to demonstrate to everyone else just how wealthy you are.  Why does this have to be about music?
DAC comparison
I've never heard the ARC, but I did get a chance to compare the Shitt Yggy vs my old Peachtree DAC-iT and it doesn't come close.  The Yggy was edgy and nowhere near as musical as my 7 year old Peachtree.
Best Sound Track Ever Vote for One
There are a lot of good suggestions here, but @re-lar-kvothe has it right.   Best all-time movie soundtrack album is from The Blue Brothers. Can’t beat "Minnie the Moocher."
Best speakers for a small room
What would probably be one of your best values and certainly the most fun, would be to build two 8 foot tall line arrays with 3" drivers.   That would be something like 24 drivers/side for a total of 48 drivers.  This one at the link is about $12 ...
