Upgrading DC Cables for Linear Power Supply
I use a variety of isolation devices to get the exact voicing I'm looking for, I keep an excess of devices, never know when I'll need a particular device. On cheap side I like the spring devices you see on ebay, you can remove or add springs as ne...
Why the huge increase in the price of Sonus Farber Amanti G5 speakers.
Here's something to get  some people's dander up, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLtzSSOexw0&t=308s Danny at GR Research and Sonus Faber.
the gateway product that turned you into an audiophile
Observing others mentioning Dahlquist DQ10's brings to mind the first time I heard them at a Detroit area audio show, probably late 70's. Demo was in a smaller conference room, very nice setup, probably Audio Research gear, my best bud and I kept ...
Network Switches
I agree, probably not optimal for multiple conversion, ethernet>optical>ethernet. Thru trial and error I found using OpticalRendu as my streamer was beneficial in a number of ways,. Firstly, Roon sound quality superior using two streamer set...
Network Switches
@fthompson251 @lalitk I too have found optical conversion to be worthwhile, and there is optimizations to be had here as well. I'm running Sonore OpticalModule to OpticalRendu, optimization of these devices via DC cables, DC plugs, LPS, AC cables,...
Upgrading DC Cables for Linear Power Supply
@rtilden I made dc cables using Mundorf silver/gold hook up wire with Oyaide DC plugs, I was pleasantly surprised by the improvement over the Uptone (not the upgraded Uptone) DC cables previously used. Using these on JCAT Netcard XE and Sonore Opt...
Vinyl sounds better (shots fired)
So, I observe most are streaming these days. Took many years to get streams up to sound quality of cd's played via my Mark Levinson transport with Phillips Pro mechanism or later on cd rips. Getting clocking correct is critical for providing  'flo...
New Klipsch Klipschorn AK7 & La Scala AL6 will be active DSP Crossover
Phase, time alignment is an issue with Khorns, I replaced stock baffle  with free standing Volti tractrix horn and tweeter on custom baffles, this provides much better phase, meaning imaging, sound staging much improved, tonal balance  also much i...
Metal or Carbon Resistors - Which is better?
I too would be wary of using a passive pre with 300B. As for 300B lack of dynamics, depends on power supply and speakers used with, I have absolutely no issues with my monoblocks, each has equivalent power supply to what I see in many stereo 300B....
Metal or Carbon Resistors - Which is better?
I'd choose metal film in places like power supplies, more likely to choose carbon in signal path. For most mods I've been using Takman carbon film and/or Texas Components TX 2575 naked bulk metal foils, Takman combo of warmer voicing and precision...
Seeking horn array loudspeakers with a maximum price of $17,500.00 per pair.
Horns with 300B tube SET, glorious!
Are there any stand alone servers, that do NOT have a streaming function?
A NAS (network attached storage) is a server, I employ one for cd rips storage.   Not surprised you can't find a dedicated server, what's the point, you need a streamer for streams, the server is only going to store local files like cd rips.   ...
Best way to dampen a micro-vibrating Printed Circuit Board inside an amp? Thanks!
@pindac is correct, there are any number of companies concerned with this, I presume they did due diligence. My Joule Electra pre did this with signal board containing tube sockets, I could see how this could reduce tube microphonics.
TOSLINK Optical vs Coaxial for CD transport to DAC
OP mentioned using Toslink, this is perhaps the worst interface for dac. Don't confuse this with optical networking, two entirely different things. Only streaming dacs will have optical network input.
Last night the Music took over….
Between other obligations and being out of town hadn't listened to my system going on three weeks, having withdrawals.    I built many systems over decades, kept an audio journal for most of that time. There are times when I'll go through those ...
