It's Sunday afternoon...what wax is on your table?
Outstanding Bizango1!I'm still waiting for my new(old) table to show up on the truck; the first one I've had since the 1970's,so I can answer threads like this one. Steve O.
Recommendation for Schubert Piano Trios Op 100
I'm with Kal. The Storioni play beautifully and the sound is warm, detailed, gorgeous. Ditto their Beethoven and Brahms. Wonder why they haven't recorded anything lately for Pentatone?Steve O.
Suggestion for Brahms
My enthusiastic recommendations:Symphony no. 4 by Kent Nagano/Deutches Sym. Orchester Berlin on Harmonia Mundi: the most beautiful performance of this piece I have heard. Not a no-holds-barred performance like C. Kleiber's, but just gorgeous. Very...
Be hard to find a better one. This performance oozes joy. And the rbcd (assuming you haven't got an sacd player) layer sounds great.

Somebody at Stereophile (John Marks?) has been waxing enthusiastic about this amplifier, and I'm seriously considering it too. He hasn't mentioned anything about needing a transformer, though. Is there any place in the U.S. that one can buy a vers...

Rachmaninoff, Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Opus 44?
Ashkenazy hard to beat; sound is not up to date, though (but his Isle of the Dead is tops, bone-chilling!).For more up-to-date sound, I recommend David Zinman and Baltimore on Telarc. Playing is not quite as exciting as Ashkenazy, but it's georgeo...

Tell you what: I'll list some of my current favorites (subject to change without me noticing). And "current favorite" may mean something I bought years ago, but am enjoying again.Rachmaninov piano concertosStephen Hough (Hyperion) Natural sound; n...
