Used Korean Speakers
The soundstage they throw is phenomenal!
Hearing loss. How much do you care about your ability to hear?
I wear hearing protection at work, and at home during yard work, home repairs, etc. I think it's important. I care, a lot.
Good Speaker within a budget of USD10,000
+1 jsm71, and don't buy ear-blind! Go audition. All speakers, more so than any other component, have sonic signatures. Who knows what YOU will like the sound of? Go listen, listen some more...then buy, and buy smart.
Loudspeaker for second system
Before I opened your post I was already thinking "ELAC". All the reviews I have read have been positive. I haven't heard them, but do own the Pioneer 22s for another system in the house that sound amazing for their price of $130/pair. Andrew Jones...

Advice needed on Amp
Want another opinion? Get room treatments on the front wall (the wall behind the speakers that you are facing), the side walls, the ceiling, and the rear wall (the wall behind your listening seat). Jim Smith's book Get Better Sound will guide you....

Regarding subs, the Swarm subs seem to be getting good reviews, especially for the price, if you have space to place all four where they need to go.

How loud is too loud
Another vote for the over-looked RS sound level meter.I too use mine seemingly all the time.Typical listening: 75 dB peaks (95% of all listening)Rockin': 85 dB peaks (when I'm gettin jiggy with it)Brief Moments of Euphoria: 95 dB peaks (very rare)

Back in the 80s went from a big Boston Acoustics floor-stander (the one with the WIDE baffle) to some Mission stand-mounts. I did it because I'm a soundstage/imaging freak and the Missions did that much better. My current Vandy 2Cs do it even bett...

+1 Erik regarding room treatment. My Vandersteen 2Cs throw a big, deep soundstage and sit a foot from the front wall, but the room treatment is the key.
