Anybody having trouble getting near-your-asking-price for used gear ? (Plz. no hype)
@cyackulic  You have the best post in this entire thread.  Nicely done.
Anybody having trouble getting near-your-asking-price for used gear ? (Plz. no hype)
People are missing the obvious cause (besides unrealistic seller expectations).  Young people aren't interested in HiFi.  They listen on headphones.   And you can get a decent experience listening experience with your iPhone/Android and a nice set...

He blamed it on the political environment That's such a vague statement.  It seems much more likely that prices are simply too high. I assume any sort of consumer goods lose at least 50% of their assumed value once you take it home and use it.  ...
Bose 901 Review Well Done.
It's a fair review of a classic 70's speaker.  For those that look down their nose at the Bose (see what I did there), HiFi is about what makes you happy, and since speakers in particular are very personal in terms of expectations, 901s had (I bel...
«40% Of Audiophiles Are Dying And No One Is Doing Anything About It!»
It's worse than you think.  100% of all audiophiles are highly likely  to die over the course of their life.
Question about high current amps versus "not high current amps"
@mulveling  Is there a metric (number) for what constitutes a high current amplifier?
Question about high current amps versus "not high current amps"
@sns "Not only low impedance  but impedance curves matter greatly as well." Exactly.  The issue with the Watts/Amps equation is that it's generally used for power consumption in appliances and such where you have (almost) perfect sine waves. Spe...
What actually determines volume power? Is it watts?
As others have mentioned, the speakers will be the biggest determinate since it represents the load on the amplifier. But to answer your question directly: Amperes = Watts/Voltage  or to flip this around Watts = Voltage * Amperes.  There's more ...
Trends in value of vintage / used audio equipment?
I bought a decent Marantz 2285B years ago for under $400 on Ebay, probably 20 years ago, and the asking for these nowadays is getting close to $2K. Similarly, I purchased a basket case 2235B for around $200K, put a bit of sweat equity into it and...
Package Has Disappeared in USPS System
More packages have been transit challenged by poor labeling and inadequate packing than all the lazy, overpaid, covid influenced, apathetic employees put together.   I don't doubt it, but in the end, the seller is responsible for the successful ...
Package Has Disappeared in USPS System
Sorry to politicalize [sic] yet another area of concern. That's interesting, but irrelevant to this story.  If the seller sent it via USPS he is ultimately on the hook for delivery or a refund.  A good vendor will go out of their way to choose th...
Package Has Disappeared in USPS System
the seller is not the insurer Not sure what that means, but the seller is responsible for the successful delivery of the product.   He was the one who chose USPS so they are in effect an agent of the seller.  Either way, the seller is on the hook...
Package Has Disappeared in USPS System
I would have already called my credit card company at this point to say you haven't received the product.   It would force action from the vendor. These are vendors, not a family member.
More potential bad news for some big names...
If you've been to an audio show (like the one in the DC area a couple of weeks ago), this shouldn't be a surprise.
Electrostatics and tubes
Just to pile on a bit, I have the Magneplan 3.6r with dual self-powered subwoofers driven by an NAD M33 which is rated at roughly 380wpc at 4 ohms, and I would consider that the minimum.   I'm considering trying a Bi-Amp setup using the companion ...
