Trends in value of vintage / used audio equipment?
I bought a decent Marantz 2285B years ago for under $400 on Ebay, probably 20 years ago, and the asking for these nowadays is getting close to $2K. Similarly, I purchased a basket case 2235B for around $200K, put a bit of sweat equity into it and...
Package Has Disappeared in USPS System
More packages have been transit challenged by poor labeling and inadequate packing than all the lazy, overpaid, covid influenced, apathetic employees put together.   I don't doubt it, but in the end, the seller is responsible for the successful ...
Package Has Disappeared in USPS System
Sorry to politicalize [sic] yet another area of concern. That's interesting, but irrelevant to this story.  If the seller sent it via USPS he is ultimately on the hook for delivery or a refund.  A good vendor will go out of their way to choose th...
Package Has Disappeared in USPS System
the seller is not the insurer Not sure what that means, but the seller is responsible for the successful delivery of the product.   He was the one who chose USPS so they are in effect an agent of the seller.  Either way, the seller is on the hook...
Package Has Disappeared in USPS System
I would have already called my credit card company at this point to say you haven't received the product.   It would force action from the vendor. These are vendors, not a family member.
More potential bad news for some big names...
If you've been to an audio show (like the one in the DC area a couple of weeks ago), this shouldn't be a surprise.
Electrostatics and tubes
Just to pile on a bit, I have the Magneplan 3.6r with dual self-powered subwoofers driven by an NAD M33 which is rated at roughly 380wpc at 4 ohms, and I would consider that the minimum.   I'm considering trying a Bi-Amp setup using the companion ...
I want to buy new speakers for 50,000 and see it used for 30,000, what should I do?
For a $20K difference you could travel pretty much anywhere on the planet, audition the speakers, listen to whether they’re working properly, look for cosmetic damage, and oversee them being packed for shipment if they’re acceptable.
What's up with the price of Vintage equipment?
The gear from the mid 1970s looked great and still does.  That's what sells them.   A lot of it goes to people who just want some background music on, you have that big beautiful faceplate with the FM dial, mellow blue lights behind it.  I have s...
AI and the future of music
"However, no AI generated music should be copyrightable." How would anybody be able to tell it was machine generated?
A Black Box to Solve Everything
Such digital signal processors already exist.   I've seen them and used them.   They can mimic tubes, all sorts of distortion, and create a unique sound in many ways: The secret of the perfect sound
Seeking Schumann 4th that is listenable
The remastered Klemperer / Philharmonia on EMI version is available (and in SACD/DSD format) although it also includes Mendelssohn's 3rd symphony as well.  It was released in 2012  and has two CDs.
Ethernet switches the good and bad
@audioman58 "a simple switch is very noisy " What is the nature of the noise?   Can you describe it and it's effect on the data stream?  Are you seeing re-transmits or lost packets?
The difference between Qoboz stream vs purchased songs
@cleeds  Interesting.  Do you have any way to share that test?  Because based on what I'm seeing on my own, I don't see an issue with Qobuz;  quite the opposite. As to the original poster, I have a natural tendency to want to own songs and music...
The difference between Qoboz stream vs purchased songs
@fredrik222 Interesting thread  It appears Quobuz is using a either a network  protocol or an application technique that will try to dump as much data down initially (which probably works really well for short pop & jazz songs) allowing an ins...
