Kind of Blue
Several years ago when I was playing saxophone tracks for a jazz gig, in the studio, the engineer put on a few Blue Note tracks. In the studio they were amazing and still my benchmark for how I would like my listening room to sounds like.
How would you spend my next $5K?
I would start with the room and go from there. I'm 4yrs away from retirement and one thing on my budget is to build a dedicated listening room and start from there.
Tri-Art Audio Open 5 open, baffle speaker.
I've been a huge open baffle fan this last year as my loft/audio room seems to really work with OBs. I took a look at the Tri Arts and they are simply beautiful. Great to hear that you are loving yours.
Anyone else order Caladans from Clayton Shaw?
Great news! I've been thinking about either building another set of OBs vs. just ordering from Clayton.
Steely Dan
Nice and thanks!
Is toeing speakers a bad idea?
decooney mentioned something important that i forget about and that is to take notes which does help.
Is toeing speakers a bad idea?
My current OB speakers like about 5 degrees toe-in but as others have said it's really about adjusting not only the toe-in but the width of the speakers with respect to the listening distance.  My other speakers, KEF LS50 Metas liked no toe-in fo...
What would your "perfect speaker" sound like.
For me it's a speaker that is rich, great soundstage and does disappear but I also agree that what I put in my main listening room does take on some similarity. My room is not ideal as it has a wall on the right side and then opens up to a stairwe...
Is There Just One Single Album That Does It For You, Completely? Just One.
If I had to pick just one it would be Chick Corea Three Quartets. I completely wore out two LPs of this recording when I was in college.
How good is good enough?
I'm currently happy with my modest system. I tend to spend time listening combined with playing around with room treatment and speaker placement.  I don't see myself spending any large sums on equipment for some time but I am thinking about build...
"If These Walls Could Sing"...Documentary about Abbey Road Studios
Thanks for that! My wife and I are always looking for great music documentaries.
Pre-Meta KEF Reference 1 or LS50 Meta
I would say stay with the R1s and adjust from there. I moved to LS50 Metas and they are great but they really needed some power and also a KC62 sub with a ~90hz crossover. In the end the biggest factor has been room placement and tuning. With the ...
Should I steer clear of class D amps
I have a Boxem Arthur 4215 which uses Purifi Eigentakt modules. I picked it since my KEF LS50 Metas need a bit of power. It is a really great balance that provides more than enough power at 4ohms, clean, with a neutral balance. In other words the ...
Did you ever buy too much bass?
For my mid-sized room setup was the key. I have a modest KEF LS50 Metas + a single KC62 sub. The goal was to provide some foundation and also crossing over the LS50s at a frequency that would remove the low bass burden. While my initial setup soun...
Off-axis listening
My room definitely has a sweet spot but when my wife wants to listen she takes the prime seat 😀 When I listen off axis I tend to become more obsessed with bass nodes in my room rather than imaging.
