Info on jbl paragon
JBL Paragon was JBLs absolute top of the line way back when. In any kind of decent shape they sell for $10K+. As Elizabeth said, if the original components are there,$3,000 would be a steal regardless of the cabinet shape. If it were me, I'd remov...
Are Nakamichi amps any good?
Nakamichi amplifiers don't need defending. They were highly praised when they were introduced and still well-respected today. Ask someone who really owns one. If you can find one that hasn't been abused, and is selling in your price range, grab it...
Are Nakamichi amps any good?
When you spend a lot of time reading this forum, and others on the internet, you hear about individual issues with every manufacturer. Does that mean that every component is flawed and should be avoided? Of course not. It's one thing to say that a...
Are Nakamichi amps any good?
Nakamichi amps NEVER had a "reputation" for being unstable. They were a Nelson Pass design and well-respected when introduced, and still popular today.
nakamichi vs threshold
I owned JBL Olympus speakers in the 70s and 80s but I'm not that familiar with the newer models. At 89db, you should not have any trouble driving them with either thePA5 or PA7. As I'm sure you realize, the 5 is simply a junior version of the PA7....
nakamichi vs threshold
Sorry to disagree, but Nakamichi amplifiers have not had a "reputation for being unstable." Do some research on the internet and I doubt that you will hear many negative comments from current or past Nakamichi owners. Nakamichi amps still sell for...
nakamichi vs threshold
Buy the Nakamichi and you will never look back with disappointment.
Dylan's Voice/ Better Now?
I like old Dylan, new Dylan...any Dylan is ok with me. I find that any of his albums take several listenings before they become part of your DNA, so give them a chance. For voice, I prefer his middle period (Infidels, Desire, Street Legal), probab...
Bang & Olufsen Beomaster 5000 - Interesting?
Interesting...yes, but collectible? Not really! B&O was a well-respected manufacturer years ago, even had their own stores (like Bose). Like Bose, they might still be ok for background music in a den or sun room...but not for critical listenin...

How do I connect headphones to a vintage amp?
You'll get more sound if you run it from the RCA outputs (LOL). But seriously, if you use an active headphone stage you can run it through the Tape Out jacks as well.
Are Nakamichi amps any good?
Although both were designed by Nelson Pass, the Nakamichi amps are anything but Threshold wannabes. I can't say how much of an upgrade you can expect over the Krell (which is a very nice amp). You may be better off updating the Krell. If you buy a...
What's the oldest piece of gear in your system?
My original Stax SRM1 Mk2, Lambda Pros with ED-1 Equalizer. I upgraded to a tube Stax driver with Signature phones, but I keep the old Stax as back up. Also, my three Nak cassette decks probably pre-date the Stax but are relatively new in my syste...
Used cables $1k - SF Amati and Bel Canto RF1000??
Tara Labs Quantum interconnects and Tara Labs Space and Time w/TFA Return speaker cables.
Audible Illusions hiss
Many years ago I bought an Audible Illusions Modulus 2B (or was it 2D). Anyway, I used it sparingly for several years, until it developed a hiss similar to what you described. I liked the preamp but traded it in on a Classe DR6, and the hissing so...
