Playing CDs sounds better than Qobuz — dammit @soix Are you using AirPlay to stream Qobuz?
Digital Gear & Upgrade Question, What do I need? IMO, what you really want to get away from is streaming using Bluetooth, as that's most likely using lossy compression. Personally, I use a Raspberry Pi with Volumio for streaming duties. I can cast from my phone (YouTube Music, Qobuz) via Bubble...
Sotm motherboard So this expensive mobo supports CPUs that are four generations behind for a PC that you’ll probably use with a USB DAC. 🤦 I’m gonna send this to the editors of TechSpot and Tom’s Hardware.
Single Ended DAC vs Dual Differential XLR DAC I don't see what beef people have with ASR or Amir. I think he's doing a great service for the community measuring all this gear. If you like gear with crappy measurements, so be it. The conclusions / recommendations are his opinion so you're fre...
Different R2R DACs Consider reinforcing the bottom octaves with a sub instead of trying out DACs. The Harbeths seem to have a very linear on-axis response in the midrange and treble, but it starts to roll off fairly early - 100 Hz according to this link. That might ...
Jcat netcard XE and USB PINK FAUN on which PCIE ports? We’ll just have to agree to disagree on that. If there was a real problem with the USB interface, you’d notice it for sure (e.g. dropouts, glitches in playback). Otherwise the data is getting from A to B just fine.Think about it - if the USB ports...
Jcat netcard XE and USB PINK FAUN on which PCIE ports? Save your money and get a decent DAC with a good USB interface.
Best DAC+Volume Control under $1000 (used) My vote is for the RME ADI-2 Fs. Chord Qutest if using the receiver as the preamp since you only have single-ended inputs.I've only heard the Qutest and it's a nice DAC. I've got a Benchmark DAC3 which is pretty close to the RME. I've used it dire...
Blue Lights The Ayre QX-5 Twenty uses blue segment LEDs for the main display but the silver function buttons glow red and green, I believe.Benchmark DACs use blue LEDs.
Speaker Decision Paralysis (for large volume loft space) My two cents - if you have access to spinorama or similar measurements, look for smooth on and off-axis frequency response. You'll have a much higher chance of finding good sounding speakers for critical listening and background music.Given your m...
Solar Panel and Inverter Recent Audio Lessons Learned Also have Enphase microinverters (IQ 7+) in a grid-tied system with no battery backup.I haven't noticed any changes to how the system sounds whether the sun is shining or not.
A question about PC audio outputs There's no point in using the motherboard audio out if you're not hearing any interference using the case audio jack.
Ayre Codex (former) Owners, what did you move on to? I compared the QB-9 DSD to the Codex and kept the QB-9. The older DAC sounded more refined and articulate. I feel it would be a worthy upgrade and these days you can find them on the used market at very reasonable prices. Having said that, I've si...
how is digital sound created? @abraxalitoThanks for that clarification - good to know. It's a linear interpolation, so very different from the interpolating filters used in the DACs themselves. The reference I found is at this link - https://www.pearl-hifi.com/06_Lit_Archive/0...
What is a cost effective way to level match, for comparing different hifi components? The most accurate way is with a voltmeter across the speaker terminals while test tones are playing. I've also used an SPL meter with pink noise (C weighting, slow response) to get a rough level match. Hopefully you have a volume control with smal... |
