A 24 watt amp would give about a 100db peak max on the Merlins(at 1 meter). This means about 90db average with 10db available headroom for music peaks. If this is loud enough for your listening tastes, then it will be fine. Most folks want the capability of 105 db max, which means you would have to get at least a 75 watt amp to barely reach 105db max.
