Audio Physic Virgo 5s

I had them in my room (18 x 18 feet, with lots of open space to other rooms) and found them quite booming. The bass on lean albums was ok (since there was hardly any bass audible), but on a decent bass-prominent album, it was always booming and bloated. The same (of worse even) with the Scorpio I auditioned. The mid band of the Virgo I found to be too emphasized as well. Apart from that it's a very nice speaker, but it just didn't go well in my room.

Did you ever think it might be your square room and not the speakers? AP speakers have never been characterized this way. By most accounts the bass can be on the lean side. However, square rooms always tend to overemphasize midbass response.

It's not exactly square and none of the other speakers I had in my room (and I've had quite a bit) had this problem. According to my dealer it's indeed a problem of AP. He always has a lot of problems making these speakers sound their best at shows too.

My expirience mirrors yours.

Lyric Hifi in Manhattan and White Plains carry Audio Physic. You may want to call and see if they have the Virgos on the floor. The Manhattan store is far better from a customer service standpoint than the White Plains store from my experience. I won't set foot in the White Plains store again.

I haven't heard the Virgos, but I have heard a few others and own the Yara Evolution Bookshelves. Never heard any boominess nor imbalance between ranges in any AP. I'd charecterize AP as tight, quick, and slightly lean in bass. Everyone's ears, rooms, systems, and music is different, and therefore YMMV.

Other AP speakers I have heard were clearly more restrained in the bass. Virgo V is not.

FYI, my reference is Wilson Sophia II and Avalon Eidolon Vision.

Those of you have heard both the Virgo V and the Virgo II - how would you characterize the differences between them?
(I'm a long-time owner of the IIs)

i found the v's to be more extended in both the high and low end but they lack that elusive mid-range magic for which the ii's are legend.

Analogkid, The Virgo II is the best Virgo;Sterophile first A 'class' below $5000. But Joachem (?) the designer left Audio Physics after Virgo II and Audio Phisics never produced a speaker that can match Virgo II or Caldera II (also Joachem design). BTW I bought for my son an Virgo II in Germany for 1200 Euro. But for his father Usher BE-20.
I.e. look for those speakers,they are realy special and can
compete with the best at present.
