Сan anyone confirm the following statement? --- The Ref 3 will remember the display when you turn it off via the power button. If the display set to off and you press the power button to turn off the Ref3, then when you turn it back on via the power button then the display will only come back on during the mute cycle: after the mute cycle (45 seconds?) finishes, the display will turn back off again (or to wherever you set it).

Maybe it's just mine then. Stereo mode works fine. In mono when I tip the balance in either direction it lowers the volume in both channels. Thanks for the info, though I was hoping it was normal for the Ref 3:(
My Ref 3 always powers up with the display on and always has. It's the display buzzing that is not normal. For kicks try setting the Ref 3 to mono and use the balance control. Now THAT is a messed up situation.
Sorry, I will mention the obvious answer which is of course to give ARC a call. But it does make sense that the display would default to being on after each power up.
I would assume most people would normally want to defeat the lights when listening at night. If you are like me, there is always the chance that I could accidentally not realize it is on when display lights are defeated and keep it running a long time before noticing.
Are you turning off the power to the unit or the system? Because it will default to display on every time it loses power. I had an LS26 and now. REF5se and the display is off unless I lose power, make volume, input etc. adjustments and when I turn it on. But once the the unit is on for a few seconds the display goes off.
