AudioBench A5 or Passive speaker with receiver.

In the last couple of days I have become intrigued with speakers on my computer desk for my small home office.
Currently I just have the Klipsch Promedia 2.1.
Although I use my nice collection of headphones and amps for listening to music. But it would be nice to have some nice small speakers so I don't have to use the headphones all the time.

But I came acros these AudioBench speakers while crusing the web. Then I started thinking some more and remembered my nice Rotel RSX-1072 receiver which has been gathering dust for over a year. Then I though what if I instead got something like the PSB Alpha B1 or the Paradigm Atoms and drove them with my receiver?

Which way would you go? Off course these speakers will be up close. Anywhere from 2-3 feet away from me and probably 3 feet apart next to my 24" LCD computer monitor.

BTW is shielding important with LCD monitors as well?

If you're taking audio signal straight from computer soundcard, you'd do just as well to stick w/ the Klipsch Promedia 2.1... those, by the way, are about the only consumer-type computer speaker I've found that sound decent w/ music.

If you want to use your Rotel to drive a pair of monitors... then you'd need to look for a decent USB DAC. Using good monitors would be pointless if the source is still the weakest link in the chain.
I once owned the Klipsch 2.1 speaker system for my computer and I was very happy with it. I had it throughout my college days (test to the durability) and had them for an additional 2 years after that. I too was struck with the itch to try something new and I decided to try the Audio Engine A5's after all of the amazing reviews.

The Audio Engine A5 is certainly a step up from the Klipsch. The midrange that these speakers produce is addicting and they are never harsh in any way shape or form. Just by themselves I find myself not wanting a sub at all although they do allow a sub to be connected.

I would without any doubt in my mind recommend you to try this speaker. I am in no way affiliated to Audio Engine, I'm just a very happy customer.

Good luck with your decision!
