Bryston BDA-3.14 volume control

Has anyone used Bryston BDA-3.14 in a setup where the unit is connected directly to the amplification and its digital volume control is used, have you noticed significant loss of resolution?

But when the volume on the BDA is less than 100%, it does not sound nearly as good as when it is at 100%, even when I compensate with the preamp volume.
