Can you connect a dac to a wireless speaker?

I am new to the computer audio field. Just recently bought KEF LSX to upgrade speakers for my mac. Now want to dip my toes in the audiophile waters of connecting a dac to my mac, to improve sound quality, also possibly adding streamer/Cd-ripper/storage to this mix. First question is connecting a new dac to to KEF LSX - it has a digital optical (Toslink) input also an aux input though this is probably analog. Can the DAC be connected directly tot he LSX? Any suggestions for DAC in $500-1000 (assume it better to get stand alone that have one incorporated into streamer/storage device) would be greatly appreciated. Lastly, the computer/LSX (2nd floor) is far away from the router (1st floor) making hard wiring to the router difficult so have to use wi-fi for internet connection.
Thanks very much.

So you want to bypass the internal DAC in the speakers?  If the speakers have analog inputs, then yes, you should be able to do this.  In your budget I would look at the Mytek Liberty as a  DAC.  As to whether or not your WiFi is good enough to reach Where the speakers are just try using the Mac from that location.  If the WiFi works you should be ok if not then you will need to boost the signal.
