Do You Have a Homemade Record Cleaning Machine?

Hi everyone,

For use in a future website, I'm interested in gathering photos of homemade RCMs. If you've built your own RCM, I'd greatly appreciate receiving a photo together with a paragraph or two of text about why you built your own, how much it cost, how well it works, etc. Your real name, your Audiogon name, or no identification -- all at your choice -- can be used in connection with your photo and text.

Thanks, everyone, for your kind assistance.

Best regards,
Paul

I think you stumped the chumps this time Paul. I don't even see the usual half-baked, cornball, studded with kooky keyboard special character responses. But that future web site invites. What is this crazy boy up to this time? A Rube Goldberg revival? My own guess is that if you can't justify Nitty or VPI, then you can get along ok with Orbitrac or the brush set from Disk Doctor and more time. But I already know that is a wet rag answer (literally?. Ok boy, out with it! Motivate us!
I can't remember where I found them, but I came across a set of plans using an old turntable and vacumn cleaner housed in a box....and then I bought a VPI 16.5! For what they sell for used ($350), I think the VPI is the way to go.
I'm working on photo's, Paul. I'd put my DIY RCM up against any VPI as far as how effective it is at getting records clean and I spent about $65 building it. It ain't pretty and spins manually, but boy does it suck! :)
Thanks, Dan. Aceto, it's not for a Rube Goldberg project. Rather, I'd like these to collect in a section of a website about record cleaning. My purpose is to show newbies (and perhaps some not-so-newbies) that very effective homemade RCMs can be made for not a lot of dollars. I suspect that the cost of commercial RCMs keeps quite a few from getting one or from entering the vinyl world altogether.

How do you post photos in a thread? If I knew, I could post a couple photos of my own homemade RCM. Any volunteers to teach me ... or post for me?

Best regards to all,
Paul
