Dunlavy returns

As per the ad in Stereophile. Apparently with two offerings claimed to adhere to Johns criteria but with updates and such. Two new models. I always liked their sound but they were two big for my usually small abodes.

Dunlavey SC 4a, best "old school" speakers I've heard.

Like Victor Khomenko at BAT, John Dunlavy knew what he was doing.

I had a pair of Duntech Princess which I owned for 19 years, by far the longest of any component I ever owned.  That model evolved into the DAL SC 4 and 4A.

I chatted with John a couple of times at a CES, after he moved back to the US and opened Dunlavy Audio Labs.  A fascinating guy.

Had the 4a’s in light oak.  With grills on they looked like coffins.  Enjoyed them till I went to my atf, ET LFT-8b.

I owned a pair of Duntech Sovereigns for about ten years from the mid 80's to mid 90's. I loved the sound but I was moving around a fair amount for my job and these were NOT easy to move.

The biggest problem with John's designs is that he liked to use a first order crossover on the tweeters with a relatively low crossover frequency so it was quite easy to damage the tweeters. I think I replaced the tweeters three times while I owned them.
