Dynaudio Emit 10

Just had to tell someone .. I finally received my little Dynaudio Emit 10s last night as I am going to be using them as my surrounds and also thought it would be a nice little listen for occasionally switching out my Focals for a different sound signature  .. well I must say that I was surprised as I just may utilize these for my mains and 2 channel listening. I find it amazing that at the cost of $535 used that a small pair of monitors have such presence including everything else. Im still in shock .. I am going to be listening to them again today to see if it was a fluke and compare them with my Focal 800w .. I still cant wrap my head around the sound that these little guys put out!

Thank you ... Not sure how much better it can get .. just a lot of info and detail coming thru these little things ..  maybe a bit better when my Modwright KWA100 SE comes in later this week? But I am running it with my Mark Levinson 433 so will be interesting to compare the two.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for chiming in ... It was a nice surprise to me . The 10s and 20s show the same power rating for both. I tried them with home theater and they did well, albeit I crossed them over at 80hrtz. I was getting peaks of over 104 with no distortion from the little crossed over Emits with the ports plugged. Of course most of the sound pressure levels were from the Velodyne DD Plus 10.

Do you prefer the ports plugged or are you using them with out?

Scott.

I know the thread is old, but you have had both the Emit 10 and the Focals which I have (807Ws) and wonder how they differ.  I have a small set of Triangle Zetas that have some similarities to Focals but are a bit more laid back and present a nice 3D-like stage at times and are smooth but a bit thinner which is nice for night listening. While the Focals are better in every area, the Zetas do alot what they do and are a smooth listen although can be sibilant, or at least have a sharpness in some voices/upper mids/low treble area.

In looking at the Emits, I would like "sufficient" detail but still smooth without the harsh/sibilance (as opposed to Dali which obscures details for smoothness) while giving a bit more body (as opposed to MA Silver 100s which can be too much and sound a bit flat stagewise) and still giving a wide stage with depth and good separation.  The little Zetas do very well at the expense of some clarity of voice and body...need to really turn up when AC on, etc.  Also, are the dyns easy to drive with say a 50 watt amp without it getting too hot?  The newer dyns are rated at 6 ohms like the Zetas.

Really looking for smaller speakers which are musical and good for all genres but particularly classical piano, voice, acoustic.  I have heard some people think the Emits get muddled with complex packages but only at higher volumes, I listen at lower to moderate volumes.  So they'd have to be good at low volumes too.  Focal is known for that, perhaps due to a slight v shaped frequency in comparison?

Any feedback appreciated.  Thanks.
