Forte 4A vs Monarchy SM-70 (std model) in bridged mode

I heard the Forte 4A and purchased the Monarchy SM-70s; there was no comparison. I used two in bridged mode as monoblocks and with speakers like my Von Schweikert they were terrific. Once I switched to high efficiency speakers, the noise floor was a little too high, even though they still sounded great.

I'd choose another Monarchy for your biamping.

It was 17+ years ago, I don't remember the differences, I did, however after a couple of years sell the SM-70's and move to a Pass Labs, all Aleph system, Ono, 30 and P. I would no doubt still have this combo but had to downsize due to a remodel. I do faintly remember the Monarchy had a bit more lively presentation and better controlled bass than the Forte.

Dill, can you describe me the differences you heard between the forte and the SM-70.Thanks

I have owned both and recommend another SM-70. They are very good amps and replaced my Forte.

I don't want to change them
I need another amp to biamp my speakers. I have the choice to wait to find another SM-70 or buy a Forte 4A which seems to have a good reputation.

I was under the impression you had, and enjoyed, the Monarchys. Thinking of changing ? Enjoy ! MrD.
