Freya + / static from volume control

Are you talking about the mechanical noise from the preamp itself? The Freya+ uses a stepped relay system for volume control which makes a clicking sound.

Or, are you hearing a noise through your speakers when you turn the volume knob (other than an increase or decrease in volume.) If this is the case, have you contacted Schiit?

Yes, it is through my speakers. Just started. 
I sent an email to Schitt this morning. Hoping there is a option for at-home cleaning, but I don't want to do anything stupid. At least nothing more stupid than my usual. 

Get a can of contact cleaner, take off the top and spay the pots. Turn them back and forth and repeat.

@curiousjim -- the Freya doesn't use potentiometers for volume control. It uses stepped relays. Something else is going on.

update / did not take off the top  yet, but did spin the volume dial a number of times. let it rest, and today - there was no static.
