What is your vinyl commitment? Commitment isn’t only money. I slowly upgraded and collected albums for nearly 60 years. My commitment was to vinyl because there was no alternative. Then a few years ago I was able to upgrade my digital rig to sound as good or better than my viny...
Single way or multiway Different designs, different trade-offs, different strengths. All this is particularly evident in speaker design. There are so many approaches and different sounds. Definitely no right or wrong. Different tastes / different solutions.
The cool factor- who has it? @sns ..."Miles Davis was not a cool guy in real life, many, many issues." You are right. Great example how most questions / issues are so general as to offer lots of options for interpretation... @sns is right... without qualification... his per...
Pulled the trigger on a Moon 861! Hope it pairs well on my Focals OP ..."I'm learning every component matters when doing separates. "
Do Audiophiles usually keep the gain of the digital source at around 80%? 100% digital outputs goes to my preamp (ARC DAC... see my virtual system). It is best to have no attenuation in the digital domain if it is an option with your DAC. Then my preamp operates between 20 and 30% max.
What is your vinyl commitment? Linn LP12 Klimax without the phonostage, Koetsu Rosewood signature cartridge, Audio Research Reference 3 Phonotstage ~ $40K I also added a Silent Running Audio Ohio Class vibration platform which made a significant sonic improment. ~$3.5K

COAX Cable Recommendations.... need some glitter OP ..."It in my mind, proved to me that the handling of the digital stream is just as important as the analogue stream." Back in the late 80's I got a two box CD player. Just to happily prove to myself that a digital interconnect couldn't possibl...
Ground loop hum Do you have parts of your system plugged into a different duplex receptacle from the rest? That can create a ground loop. Plug everything into one (you'll have to use a power conditioner or power strips). If it goes away... that the problem. I had...
Distortion Distortion Distortion I’m 73. I have a high end system. I became very sensitive to distortion when in my 30's... not the measured kind... the stuff that comes out of speakers from electronic components. I have never really been able to correlate measured distortion wi...
Is More Better? Just a question of what you want out of your system / what kind of music do you listen to. Typically subwoofers are carefully feathered in at the frequency of the main speakers have the bass drop off and just make up for the small volume and low...
McIntosh amp Power tube replacements needed How many hours do you have on your tubes? Do you have 2,000 hours on them? That is their recommended replacement time. Hmm, that will add up. Even at $60 / tube. My amp (ARC 160s) has 2,850 hours on the tubes, recommended changing tubes at 3,000...
Just got a pair of Apple AirPod Pro 2’s for my birthday I have had several AirPods ones... and now 2 USBC. The new ones sound notably better... more bass than earlier models. I use them two to five hours a day. I listen while walking the dogs and my daily bike rides as well as yard work. Typically boo...
Streamer Options Needed Aurender offers outstanding sound quality and the Conductor App which runs on phones, iPads, and MacPro... I guess a MacMini as well. I have two Aurender after trying Aurlic, Grimm, BlueSound, and Linn and some other streamers. Audiophile quality ... |
