It wasn't till about 1991 or so that Nakamichi came out with the gear drive standard on the "Cassette Deck 1" and not sure what other models, but this was after all the "CR" models 1 thu 7 and the Dragon.. I have a "Cassette Deck 1" that has the gear drive, and I had the gear drive upgrade performed by a Nak authorized service center on a BX-300 (circa 1984 or so)... the gear drive works fine and I can't hear anything wrong with it but I did read somewhere someone's opinion that the earlier drive mechanisms were somehow better (?) I really don't know anything about that.
Gear-drive cassette decks.....
Hey folks...from what i can gather later day Naks and higher end Akai featured gear driven mechanisms....any other makes-specific models come to mind? Not a collector...just seeking performance and reliability. What mid-level Naks and AKai models had this feature...asume they are direct drive...which is want i want...thanks...
