Maggie 1.7i vs 1.7 (what was changed??)

anyone know, factually? wendell seems rather coy about disclosing, which is rather disappointing

i got my set of 1.7i’s (on magna risers) - these modern versions are just terrific

it has been since 1990 that I have had maggies (3a’s back then), so nice, so much fun, so wonderful to be listening to them again (and probably set up right this time around, in a proper room!! 😆)

anyhow, anyone know what was changed going to the ’i’ model?  there is mention of crossover improvements as i research the topic... but nothing specific or concrete

curious - same question for 3.7 to 3.7i -- anyone with insight or real info on this??

@mesch

happy new year!

i will be working through the stable over the next little while, just got the speakers yesterday

pass int150 and hegel h190 so far (the no-brainer good matches), both are really terrific, if with slightly different palettes

will try hegel h20, pass xa25, odyssey stratos, usher ref 1.5, belles sa30 in due course, then the gan amps, then arc tubes

@mesch

i have always felt maggies need some room around them, and some good distance from the listening position - my own listening (equilateral) triangle has 10-11 ft legs, i have 5 ft of clearance behind the speakern panels to the front wall currently, still doing last of the dialing-in

that said, the rave reviewed little lrs is meant for smaller rooms, you might get some retailer and/or reviewer input if they would work well nearfield or semi nearfield

in that use configuration i have got to think the xa25 should do very well driving them

i am well aware of the sonic differences, just curious as to what was done to the speakers in the ’update’ to the 'i' version

I do know what they did, and would love to say, except that they keep it confidential. Steve at the Audio Circle and I did our best to convince Wendell to disclose it, but he said he couldn't tell us what it was. Eventually, I did figure it out, and he was right -- they really can't disclose it. I still think they should be more forthcoming about other changes, but in this case, I understand why they can't be more forthcoming.

my honest reaction to this post is 'wtf'
