Maintaining audio equipment in asia

Hi everyone,

I just moved to Asia a month ago and all my audio equipment is on its way here by ship. Specifically, I'm in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and have just signed a house that's relatively open to air. The city has varying heat levels moving from a min. of 10 C to about 35 C, depending on the time of the year. But the humidity is what scares me about the equipment.

I was hoping I could reach out to the community to get some tips on how to maintain my equipment (listed below) in tip top shape. Ah, there's a lot of dust here. Luckily, I will have daily help to keep the place clean. So the tips would mostly be for training that person.

Thanks for your tips and can't wait to set up here!

If the humidity is high, you need to watch exposed metal that you can't see well. Binding posts on speakers, floor spikes, metal on equipment racks, and anything similar. Most people go over and clean actual components on a regular basis. That's good, but if you leave a pair of speakers in the same spot for a few years, you may be in for a surprise when you tilt them back and look underneath them. Its the hidden stuff you really need to watch if you have a lot of moisture in the air
Thanks for the tip. Will wiping them down (even the hidden parts) make the right difference? Or treating them? Or is it just a losing battle?
