There is a house sound to Jeff Rowland preamps that may not be for all ears. From my comparisons(Capri and Corus) with other amps(Ayre K-5xeMP and Constellation Audio Inspiration) at home, the top is a touch sweet with less air and sparkle while the bottom is not as tight as some would like it to be. The Capri's midrange sounds thick compared to the more open and transparent Corus. Also, both are a bit lacking in dynamics and don't do rock material as well as the Ayre or the CA Inspiration.
Again, it all boils down to system synergy and personal tastes. If you are looking for another amp to ameliorate the JR house sound to some extent, the Burmester may just be the ticket. Burmester amps are airy on top while staying warm without plumpness in the bass or thickness in the midrange. Burmester amps are amongst the best that I have heard but they are just way off my budget.
