I don't know why this is such an emergency. The effects you get from biwiring are usually not big (Vandersteen is the only exception.). Type 8 is a very good sounding cable. I would use it until you are in a better position to upgrade. |
If you are willing to pay for new cables, try Audio Advisor. They seem to have inventory:

Or have I misunderstood your question? |
Never claimed this was an emergency, so I'm not sure what to make of that. Either way, I think you might have misunderstood what I was asking. The problem I have is that I want to bi-amp my speakers, and I have a perfectly good pair of [discontinued] cables that I don't want to go to waste (you can't just buy a different type of cable as you are not supposed to mix and match cables of different construction and geometry).
I've already checked with Audio Advisor, and they don't have any factory terminated cables, they only have leftover bulk cable that they terminate in-house with pretty cheap looking stuff. What I'm looking for is another set of full range (not bi-wire) type 8s in a 10 ft run with banana terminations. If anyone has a used set they are considering parting with, I'll pay a very fair price. Thanks... |
"I can't afford to buy two sets of something new right now, but Audioquest has apparently discontinued these cables, and I cannot find a set ANYWHERE. I've checked every online retailer, amazon, ebay, etc, and the only thing I found was a dealer that had a set of cv-8s in the wrong length (8 ft, and I need 10 ft). If anyone knows where I can find a set, I'd be very appreciative. Thanks!!"
You got me. I don't see the word emergency ANYWHERE in your post. Sorry for the error. |
You should include the Audioquest Slate, especially the original version, in your search. I have reterminated the Type 8 as well as the Slate and they seemed nearly identical. At one point I used the Slate for one speaker and Type 8 for the other. The setup worked fine for me. As for finding what you need, ebay is one place, or you could place a "want To Buy" ad which will run for a month.

@Zd542,
I'll take note in the future that using capital letters to emphasize something denotes an "emergency." Thanks for clearing that up for me.
@Timrhu,
Thanks for the tip, I'll look into that... |

Thanks, but I can't take credit for clearing up the capital letters = emergency issue for you. I never made such a statement. Maybe it was in someone else's post. |
You might check with hcmaudio.com, they seem to carry a lot of Audioquest product. It seems like they carry discontinued products too |
^Much appreciated. I saw their website earlier, but they didn't seem to have it listed (at least not in the length I was looking for). Will give them a call just to be sure, though. |
I see that Audio Advisor has Type 8 for sale. Or worst case scenario, buy the bulk cable and have them terminated. |
Thanks for all the replies, guys. I called HCM, and even though they didn't have what I was looking for on their website, they were able to make me a set of "no-frills" CV-8 (no DBS equipped) in the length I needed for a very reasonable price.
I went with them over Audio Advisor because they terminate with AudioQuest connectors, and are able to do the same "cold weld" process that AQ does, so it's as close to factory-terminated as I'm going to get at this point.
Since my Arcam AVR400 is capable of [proper] active bi-amping, unlike the Denon it's replacing (which could only passively bi-amp), I'm excited to see how my system sounds... |
I've tried a LOT of connectors and now I use various AQ spade and banana (gold screw CF variants) connectors and they're extremely easy to install, look cool, and are built very well. Nobody seems to make a better screw-on spade or banana. I use some shrink wrap to keep things clean on Type 8 cables in a 10 foot run, and I think the type 8 (bought mine gently used) is an audio bargain. |
