Three Dog Night: the greatest cover band ever.
Not to diminish the contributions of fellow vocalists Chuck Negron and Danny Hutton, imho Wells was the most talented and versatile of the three. He sang lead on many of their best songs: Let Me Serenade You, Try A Little Tenderness, Shambala, Never Been To Spain, Mama Told Me (Not To Come) and Eli's Coming.
I saw them live in the early-80s' at the Lake Lanier Island Resort outside of Atlanta. It was one of many gigs they performed that year on what could be best described as a 'nostalgia' tour. The band was in fine form and they ripped through a couple of sets of their greatest hits. Even my old man really enjoyed the show and generally he hated rock 'n roll.
RIP Cory.....
