I was considering the RP-1 but instead opted for the Audio by Van Alstine Fet Valve CFR. I'm very happy with my decision. The latter is a true tube preamp with no SS devices in the signal path. It also has two gain settings and a transparent low-pass filter, both of which I find very useful. I've owned 4 Rogue products and all were noisy to some extent in my system. In each case, the noise was loud enough to be heard across the room when the equipment was idling. With the AVA preamp, I can hear only a slight hiss with my ear a couple inches from the speakers.
