@slaw @bkeske Agree w/Brian that trying the various loading resistance options can't hurt any more than turning a tone control would. I'm pretty sure that capacitance settings only affect MM; that's why Soundsmith doesn't have a recommendation for it regarding their MIMC & MCs. Most MM phono stages have only one fixed value that is so common that almost all MM carts are built with it in mind. OTOH, I've seen old threads encouraging tweaking capacitance on certain models if you have that flexibility. So Steve, you have that flexibility if you ever experiment w/MM. |
Thanks Spencer, as I have never had a phono pre with capacitance setting options, I did not know it was only used for MM. The MIMC and Sussarro are still MI (moving iron), but as they are both lo output, I believe work more as a MC carts vs MM. If Steve is using the custom 400 jumper at the MC resistance slots, that may be a tad low per Peter’s recommendations. Again, I prefer my MIMC at 1K, and have read other lo output SS (MIMC, Sussarro, Voice, etc) users prefer the same. But as I said, if I had the option of 800-850, I have a feeling that may be perfect.
