Yggdrasil or iFi pro dac

Old post but was wondering how you liked the EVO also.

very curious to hear the report too.  All I've seen in ways of comparisons is one single two line comment about PSA's Directstream being a "warmer" dac than the Evo. 

So you've had this DAC for a few months, can you give a report on how it sounds?  Everything I've read said this is one of the best sounding DACs available.  Does it live up to the hype?

Well I ended up getting a new dac. It's the PRIMA LUNA EVO 100 Tube DAC. 

Still doing research, I've read about a DAC called the Lampizator Amber 2.  Do any of you have experience with them.

I have no experience with any of these DACs but they look interesting.

I'm removed the iFi from the list because of to many options to deal with, for me I want something to enhance the music. 
Also did some research on the OPPO option and finding they are eliminating their audio and video line of products. 

One more thing to point out... most of us have heard about the OPPO 205 and how good it performs with a MSRP of $1200. And we must assume that Oppo is not the only Chinese company that can build quality audio products. Those Chinese built DACs ( and other audio products) will only get better and cheaper. And they ship directly to us to make it even cheaper.

I read some very positive reviews on a DAC (with dual ES9038Pro chips/dual toroidal transformers) from China and bought one. You can buy it on ebay (or on amazon) for $1200 - $1300 shipped. Had both the Yggsdrasil (always on) and the Chinese side by side for about 3 weeks. The Chinese DAC simply blew the Yggy away...  sounded much much better as night and day. My wife and son knew that I bought a new audio component when they, all of sudden, heard amazingly different sound.
I am not a fan of Chinese products... but sadly the Chinese make DACs better and cheaper. I am not affiliated with the Chinese company by any means. And of course I don't want to promote their products in public forums.Oh and one good thing about the Yggy is that it's so easy to resell.

In my setup I hear a wide and deep soundstage, very lively with excellent dynamics. Detailed, but still a pinch warm. Perhaps something in the setup is affecting the sound? Components not matching well?

Was it properly burned in and warmed up (which, by the common knowledge, means "on" all the time at least for the past few weeks)?What did you replace it with? I got rid of it's smaller brother, the Gungnir multibit (last, unofficial "A2" iteration) because of the narrow stage, among other things, but it was not (particularly) dull, lifeless or undynamic to my ears....

I recently got rid of my Yggdrasil Analog 2 because it sounded 'lifeless'.Dull, narrow sound stage... and yes it lacks dynamics (a lot of folks get confused it for being 'analogy').

I have a Yggi and have compared it to my Oppo UPD 205 which has 2 ESS 9038 Pro chips and prefer the sound of the Yggi which not based upon a delta sigma design but a R2R and it will not play MQA. The Benchmark is also based upon ESS so it would sound similar to the Oppo.  If you like the feature set of the iFi go for it but the Yggi is outstanding for the price.

I wouldn't recommend purchasing an audio component based on measurements alone.  I’d highly suggest listening, preferably in your system.

I have a Yggdrasil Analog 2, and it’s a very fine DAC.  Some guys on Head-Fi have heard both and commented. You may wish to read more there.  My main takeaway from there is the Yggdrasil strikes a
good balance between being precise and musical, whereas the iFi in Bit Perfect mode is a bit warmer and less accurate.

Schiit Audio has a 15 day trial period, something to consider.

Gun to my head to choose between those two, the Schiit probably.
