6-8 ft will work ofcourse but so will 8-10 depending on toe in and the possible speakers you may switch to.
I am roughly 10ft away with speakers almost 4ft from rear wall, about 6 ft apart from another and I still have alot of room behind me to avoid reflective echo. My only point is dont get tricked into thinking you have to be only 6-8 ft away, its simply not true and besides even if someone insisted it is your the only one who needs to be happy in the end.
I will add that I use my room for movies aswell so 6ft away from a 98in screen would be way overwhelming for me so that was another consideration for me, but I would almost certainly maintain same distance even without the projector issue.
But I think its fair to say you are a lucky man, as many have noted and now all you need to do is set it up and enjoy!
