Yamaha amp?

A few years back Yamaha made what was considered an amazing amp. (from what I had read)

Apparently it was a beast with 200 wpc and amazing power.

Can someone tell me what amp it was or let me know if it was as good as the reviews said.

Btw, I understand its not a big $$$ amp, I just want something musical with good power.
thanks

Steve,

The problem is not in the speakers. But it could be in your pre amp or interconnect cables. First I would try a different power amp and interconnect cables.

If the problem is eliminated it is the cables or the MX1000. If the problem persits, the signal is inconsistant from your pre amp.
Have both M70 & MX1000. I also use higher end amps, such as Krell and BAT. I keep the older Yamahas around as spares. Frankly, they do not give much away to their newer, more expensive breathren. Between the two Yamaha models, I find that the M-70 is current-biased higher than the MX1000 and seems therefore to have a slightly warmer sound. The sound from these older amps is very full and quite impressive, IMO. I've detected nothing in their sound that suggests they become unstable at low impedance (e.g., w/ my Martin Logans). The M-70 can be had for less than $300. Very, very hard to beat.
I have an M70 and MX-2000. The MX-2000 ($4000 when new) is an entirely different design than the MX-1000, and is a scaled down version of the legendary MX-10,000 ($11000 when new). The MX-2000 is a very serious amp - almost a work of art, and was available by special order only. It only puts out 130 watts into 8 ohms, but those are some very refined watts. It's heavy at 62 pounds, pure class A MOSFET design, and all hand-made solid construction w/titanium-cherry finish. Sound is smooth and very detailed, with an enormous 3D soundstage. Beautiful to listen to, and even to look at. Consider yourself extremely lucky if you ever get your hands on one of these. The M70 is a good amp, but the MX-2000 is in another league entirely. I'm still looking for an amp to better it (and I've auditioned quite a few lately).
M 2. Aka the beast! 200 watts per channel and Yamaha's first amp after
Giving up FET's in late 70's and 80. Buy one if you can.
THE YAMAHA MX1000 IS CRAP COMPARED TO THE YAMAHA B=1,B2, OR B2X. I HAVE OWBED ALL THREE. ALL OF THESE WERE DUAL MONO CLASS A/B AMPS. THE B1 AND B2 WERE V FET AMPS WHICH WERE UNIQUE IN THERE SOUND AS MORE TUBE LIKE WHEN WARMED UP FOR AT LEAST THIRTY MINUTES. THE B2X WAS PERHAPS THE CLEANEST AMP WITH THE BEST BASS AND CLEAREST HIGHS. I HAD THE M80,M85,MX1000,M2,M4, M70,AND HAD ALL OF THEM WITH REALLY CLEAN MAGNEPAN TYMPANI SPEAKERS WHICH WOULD ALLOW YOU TO HEAR VERY SMALL DIFFERENCES IN ELECTRONICS. I STILL OWN A YAMAHA B2 C2,T2 SETUP BUT SOLD THE B2X FOR 1500 AS THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I ONLY REPLACED IT WITH A SPECTRAL/MARSH DESIGNED MONSTER POWER MPA 2250 TWO CHANNEL X TWO FOR MY MAGNEPAN TYMPANI 4 AND EXTRA TYMPANI WOOFER SETUP.
