I've got Springsteens new cd on order with Amazon and its a dualdisc, which, from what I've read does not quite meet Redbook standards. What should I expect? Damage to my Cary 303/200 or my Toshiba DVD player? What kind of sound quality?
I did do a quick search on the forums before writing this note, and I could not tell exactly whether the folks who wrote were experienceing problems with dualdisc or there was just anger in the perception that Sony was taking up the cause of dualdisc in place of SACD.
Whilst the Sprinsteen disc has a seperate DVD here in the UK,HI-FI Choice magazine last month gave away a Dualdisc and my Ayre CX-7 just doesn't read it at all. Not good.
The Springsteen disk played fine in the car which was why I suspected that it simply did not conform close enough to Redbook standards to play in the Ayre CD player. It's peturbing that I needed to copy it onto a blank CD in order to listen to it on the home stero unit but I like Bruce so I'll deal with it. I do side with some of the others here when I say that I hope the dual disk format is short lived unless it can be formatted to strictly conform to Redbook standards.
