Are tuners getting worse?

Equipment Reviews in Stereo Review for last several years seems to indicate that FM performance even in premium receivers is not up to performance of several years ago. If I want a good stereo FM tuner should I be looking for something from the mid-80's? Any suggestions on good models/vintages for picking up on an auction or classified?

is the sansui au-5900 a good tuner? it sure looks cool! I need and want a good vintage tuner but dont want to spend over $100 I have some on ebay Im watching but Im not sure what to bid on.

David there is an excellant top 10 tuner thread from some time ago. Search "tuner", maybe one your looking at is one there.

hi david,

while ewe don't have to spend a fortune on a good tuna, i tink yule have to go higher than $100. mebbe ewe can find a nec t6e for $100, that's the only one i can tink of at/near that price that's a good one. i have a nice adcom gft-1a (their best tuna) f/s if yure innerested - more than a bill, but less than 2! ;~)

go czech out that thread on tunas under $1k in the analoge section...
