Maggie's and cats

I am thinking of taking the plunge on a pair of Maggie 1.6's for my second system (surround system). They seem like the best sound I can get for the money. I have two great reservations however named Heebee and Geebee.......... my two cats. I had the speakers home for a couple of days for audition with no troubles, but can just imagine walking in the door one night to find they have been turned into a huge jungle gym/scratch post by my two manx'. Is anyone out there in a similar situation? Has anyone found any solutions to the problem. Up until now I had not even considered these speakers for this very reason; thing is I really like the sound (and value).

MG-1's bought in about 83. ORiginal owner
sprayed them with something. Cats NEVER looked twice '
at 'em, even after rebuild.

If you like your cats do not have your cats declawed. It can change their personalities! It would be great to find the substance Magfan is referring to.
Maybe your vet might have some suggestions.

I found that my Vandersteens were cat magnets after I had them awhile. They pilled the fine grille cloth a little so I got one of those things to shave pills off of sweaters and that took care of that damage. Then I had some black vinyl covers made with velcro attachments. Protects them from damage It is a PITA to take them off to listen but until I move somewhere that I can close off the listening room from cats, I will have to live with it. Declawing is kinda inhumane but the little B----ds can wreck anything fabric covered in no time. Get them a scratching post wrapped with sisal rope that is at least 4 feet tall or so and that can distract them from other stuff. Ignore the cat hating posts!

Or get electrostat speakers. Maybe the HV on them will act sort of like vertical scat mats and a couple zaps will shy them away! :)
