Sub for 2 channel music only setup

Hiya,

I've been reading alot about some subwoofers being better suited for music and some better suited for HT. Is there really a difference? If so I was wondering anyones thoughts on a brand of subwoofer to be used in a two channel music only system. I have Polk LSI9's and a Parasound A21/P7 amp/pre. Thanks.

REL "S" series. There really is a difference, HT subs are for sound effects and ones like these are for music.
I do not agree at all with Stanwal's gross generalization of subs but I do endorse his recommendation of the REL "S" series for their easier integration with analog stereo systems.

Yes there is a difference. It might be worthwhile to check out ACI -- google "aci titan XL".
Agree with Stanwal and Kal on the REL. The REL is one of the only sub systems to use hi-level inputs from your main amp with no crossovers in the signal path of your main speakers. When set correctly, you only notice the presence of the sub when you turn it off - the extremely low bass disappears and the soundstage collapses. For best performance, it is critical to use one of Synergistic Research's Tesla Rel Spec cables for the hi-level connection.
Another vote for Rel. Personally I stay away from the 'R' series.
I recently upgraded the stock cable to a Nordost Baseline and that made a huge difference. I had no idea what I was missing
