erik, any thoughts on this DIY kit? It has little larger cabinets than the LM-1 you suggested, and may sound "fuller".

Dual woofers still go as low as 1 woofer, but have more dynamic range.
Lots of people like that Dayton tweeter but I haven't heard them. If that's what you are looking for, the matching LM-1C is also an MTM. Check it! https://speakermakersjourney.blogspot.com/2016/03/introducing-lm-1c.html I apologize for the huge banner ads at the top, I am trying to get rid of them! |
Also, there's an MTM kit designed by Dr. Joseph D'Appolito somewhere in the Parts Express speaker gallery you may want to check out as well. From my memory, the LM-1C was far more neutral, but again, have only heard the LM-1's, and when you are the designer it's like being a chef. You make what you think tastes best. :) Best, Erik |
I should also point out that while MTM designs have narrower dispersion, they also have more lobing. Being off axis of the tweeter can be a bigger deal than for a 2-way. So it's good to solicit listener opinions. I really like the LM-1C but can't help you compare it. :) It works well as the center of my HT with the LM-1's and another pair of very neutral speakers I use for reference. |
