Your Favorite Cover Songs?

One of the highest honors that can be bestowed on a rock band is to have some other well known act cover your songs.

Here are some of my favorite cover songs:
1. "Well...Alright" (Original by Buddy Holly covered by Blind Faith)
2. "LA Woman" (Original by The Doors covered by Billy Idol)
3. "Love Me 2 Times" (Original by The Doors covered by Aerosmith)
4. "Come On Everybody" (Original by Eddie Cochran covered by Led Zeppelin)
5. "Refugee" (Original by Tom Petty covered by Melissa Etheridge)
6. "The Battle Of Evermore" (Original by Led Zeppelin covered by Heart)
7. "Hard To Handle" (Original by Otis Redding covered by The Black Crowes)

Have to cast another vote for Shel. Saw them in Northern Michigan and highly recommend them. The "Battle of Evermore" cover is really outstanding. I also enjoy "Going to California"

Slaw mentions Patricia Barber and while "A Taste of Honey" is one of my favorites, her cover of "Autumn Leaves" is absolutely breathtaking. If you don't want to listen to the whole thing, "Autumn Leaves" starts at the 20:50 mark...

And one last suggestion is unfortunately one that you will never hear but I saw a singer/songwriter out of Northern Minnesota named Andrew Newton who performed what is as far as I'm concerned, THE definitive version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. I thought it was even better than k.d. lang. This guy just got it right! Here is a more recent track from him.

The Remains! Good one Slaw. I’ve always loved The Beau Brummels’ version of the Don Gibson classic "Oh Lonesome Me", which I much prefer to Neil Youngs odd take on the song. I recently for the first time heard Marshall Crenshaws recording of Dylans "My Back Pages". It is absolutely fantastic, even better than The Byrds version, and that’s really saying something.
