Disaster

While I am in the hospital recovering from a hip operation, my wife tells there was a fire in my music room and all the components are covered in soot.
Does anyone know if equipment is recoverable after being covered by soot?
This is a vintage system with many modifications and can't be replaced

What a story rvpiano. I'm so glad you were able to get things back in order and that all seems to be well now. I can't emphasis enough having excellent insurance and having your expensive items documented somehow.

When I was younger I came home one day to see fire trucks lining the road in front of our home. It was a complete loss. The only things I had left were the clothing I was wearing and the few items that were in my car. Everything else was gone. To file a claim we had to sit down and list all of the things we had that were in the home. What a task! For years afterward I would find myself saying, "Hey whatever happened to.....oh yeah it was burned up in the fire". It is a terrible thing to have to start over from scratch.
Falconquest:  Your case is a lot worse than mine.  At least my house survived, even though three rooms had to be gutted.  Also, my equipment and media came back like it never happened.  I really feel for you.

After several 18 hour days of unpacking and cataloging many thousands of records and CDs, and making wrenching descisions as to what to dispose of (at least a thousand) because they wouldn't fit on the shelves, I'm just about finished.
After I figure out how to post photographs here, I will do so.  Hopefully soon.

soot is mostly silicon so it's semiconductor. today instead of burned or destroyed home you can get only half or less after calling your insurance. unfair, but sad fact -- if your house is $1M you can only get half.

post photographs under systems section and let us know.

I got to "systems", but I can't find where to post photos.
