Tekton vs. Salk Sound?

Hi,

I currently own a pair of Salk Song3s. I am looking for something much more and have a budget of $10K-$15K. My main use is 50/50 of HT and music.

I prefer to not use a sub at all, because I live in a shared townhouse. This is a huge requirement for me. I feel that a separate sub just has way too much bottom end and ends up shaking down the entire building and pissing off the neighbors. My current Song3s go down to 30Hz, but obviously nowhere near the feel/loudness of a separate sub.

I heard a lot about Tekton, but never heard them. Does anyone here have experience with both? I have always remained loyal to Salk, but as I continue to upgrade, I do not want to be ignorant to better brands and be boxed into only Salk.

I always thought that I get a lot more speaker for the money with Salk compared to other brands. Now that I have a larger budget, I want to challenge that assumption.

What else should I be looking at for $10K-$15K price range?

Anyone have experience with Salk vs Tekton that could weight in?

My current amp is a Mcintosh MC207 with Anthem AVM60. I also have a separate MAC6700 for music only.

Thanks in advance and look forward to others' thoughts.

I've been told there's a Salk group over on Audiocircle. You might try there.
@dhanks :

I used to own Jim’s SongTowers and now own the Tekton Double Impacts. I have not heard the Song3s, but am familiar with other speakers with a similar driver set.

You owe it to yourself to give the Tektons (especially the Double Impacts) a listen. The DIs are essentially the same price as the Song3s in base configurations.

And you will not need to augment with a sub unless you absolutely want to, which seems to be a no go proposition due to your living situation.

I was holding off on purchasing Devore O/96s (an aspirational speaker for me, for some time). They retail at 12K. Though I would have loved to have brought a pair of the O/96s into my main system, the delta in savings has afforded me a Preamp, a Power Supply, and ALL new cabling.

Something to consider.

All the best in your search.

I have the Salk Song3 and feel they are a tremendous bargain and with certain music (mellow stuff) I couldn't ask for better. I could stand for a little more OOMPH with Zeppelin,Black Sabbath etc.  Are you in agreement, @dhanks?

These two companies seem like big bang-for-your-buck type companies. I'm looking at Tekton and also the Song3 and Salk Silk Tower but concerned about room configurations, especially with the big woofer on the Song3.
