Turntable Set-Up

Hi
I am wondering if anyone can suggest a person in the Portland Oregon area to set-up turntables? Looking for someone who can work on both Gimbal and Unipivot style arms...and hopefully would do it on site.
Many thanks for any suggestions!

Good advice from raymondo. I watched Brooks and Brian Berdan install, align, and test table/arm/cartridge set ups for years, but have always done my own. It's not brain surgery! You just have to know a few principles, have the right tools, good light, and not be in a hurry. Get Michael Fremer's DVD, he covers everything.
@rwanda, I'm going to Pearl Audio this afternoon for the world premiere of the Magneplanar MG30.7. I'll check out their service department, and ask them about table/arm/cartridge work. Check back later today (Monday, 3-5).
I'm friends with a member of the Portland Audio Society, Michael is his name, and he is a go-to setup guy for some of the society's members. I have heard his vinyl setup, it is superb. He is a member of Audiogon, with the handle of Oregon. Look him up, and see if he can help.

Regards,
Dan

@rwanda, I talked to the guy at Pearl Audio who does their table/arm/cartridge set ups (sorry, I didn’t get his name), who told me he does Linn and Rega, the lines Pearl sells. His problem with doing other brands is that he does not have a general purpose alignment protractor, only the dedicated ones for Linn and Rega. That about sums up the Portland Hi-Fi retailer situation.

I’m use to the true High End dealers of SoCal---the shops in Portland seem more like Mid-Fi dealers to me. Brooks Berdan was (R.I.P.) and Brian Berdan (his son, now at Audio Elements in Pasadena) is expert at cartridge alignment, using a microscope and the no-longer-available Ortofon pickup computer performance analyzer with print out, and a fully-stocked tool bench containing every product ever made for the job. After alignment, the Berdans "run-in" the cartridge, playing it a certain numbers of hours to relax the suspension, after which the cartridge is again aligned, it’s VTA/SRA reset as necessary. Very few dealers would even know to do that.

I'm in the Hillsboro area and could give you a hand with the setup if you'd like. I'm not a pro but I have a scale and a good technical background.
