Rega Planar 3

Well, just picked up a Rega Planar 3 last week at my local shop. Really started to like it with the stock cartridge until I noticed a hum that got louder as I move the tonearm closer to the spindle.
Dropped it off at the shop, they agreed their is a hum. They changed the cartridge, same hum. They are contacting Rega Monday to figure it out.
Hope this tt wasn't a mistake.Anyone else hear of this?

The hum is caused by the motor, and I ignore it because it's loudest beyond the grooves where it doesn't matter. I don't hear it on playback after recording.
My REGA P3/24 is always dead quiet regardless of what cartridge I mount on it. One of the best sounding entry level tables I have owned. Dynavector 10X5 is a incredible synergistic match on the RB300 series tone arms.

It may a combination of the Motor RFI/EMI and a tonearm grounding issue

Try testing for continuity across the ground wire and the tonearm - if that is OK then your cartridge is sensitive to noise from the motor. Grado carts used to be very sensitive to noise from the Rega motor.

I have not had an issues since I had the tonearm wires replaced with a Cardas one piece loom.

I now have an Audiomods arm with a one piece loom - it is now very quiet.
