Who has Luv for the Lyngdorf 2170 and is thinking about the 3400.

@essrand I'm very curious too.  Although to be fair, I already know that the Franks don't provide enough gas for the coincident pres. I will most definitely, however, try a bi-amp configuration with the Franks driving the head units and the Lyngdorf on the subs. Don't think anyone here is bi-amping though (and almarg didn't think it was a great idea with the pres), so we'll see... I guess funds wise, it'd be best if the 3400 just wins outright. I did need a preamp and had been shopping for a new dac, so I might keep the 3400 even if I end up preferring the Franks.

I've had the 3400 since early May.  Did not have the 2700, so I can't compare the two.

System was: Bryston BDP-2 -> Schiit Yggdrasil -> Ayre KX5-Twenty -> Benchmark AHB2 -> Vivid V1.5

Now the Ayre is a very well regarded pre, and it alone costs considerably more than the 3400, so I knew I was taking a chance when I traded it in toward the Lyngdorf.  I liked the Ayre a lot except for the loud mechanical volume control which I never got used to.  Listening mostly on shuffle, I change volume between almost every song.

Did room measurements after receiving the 3400, and again after break-in (about 300 hours).  As with most things in life, there was a trade-off.  Bass definitely improved with the Lyngdorf.  I feel like a little bit of air and dimensionality was given up though, compared to the Ayre + other components.

Tried outputting the 3400 analog signal to the Benchmark; tried digital out from the 3400 to the Schiit and back to the analog input of the 3400;  and digital out -> Schiit -> Benchmark (using the 3400 as just pre & room correction).  In my system, the Benchmark seemed to give little or no change over the 3400's amp.  The Schiit was harder to tell.  I think I would need to get the improved analog input module for the 3400 and test again. (the Yggdrasil really is an extraordinary DAC)

I'm using neutral voicing on the Lyngdorf... the voicing customization options (filter settings) are a bit confusing to me and I haven't really explored that, although it could end up making things even better.  Has anyone here has success with customizing voicing?

Have heard of a couple of people having issues on an update, do not remember what one of their solutions was but it should be right here in this thread somewhere.
I only updated mine once right out of the box and had no problem at all.

Have a question for those running a sub on their 2170.

What are you using and how did you set it up for best results?

I recently downsized my speakers to Scansonic mb2.5 and while bass is fair it does not compare to the Wilson's they replaced.
So just to test I added an old sub I have lying around, an old Jensen 8" sub, cheap and cheerful but wanted to make sure there would be some improvement.
Looking to stay under say $400 used if possible.
