Louis W Erath - In Memoriam

Louis W. Erath has just died Re: Louis W. Erath (June 10, 1917 - September 8, 2008)

His daughter Annie asked to have this message forwarded to his friends and industry.

My father, Louis Erath, went to be with the Lord at 9:52 this evening. He was surrounded by his wife of 68 years, two of his daughters and his grandaughter.

He passed in the same home in which he was born some 91 years and three months ago in South Louisiana.

Although he was ill this past year, he remained a creative and productive man all of his life.

Although many here on Audiogon will not remember him, his speaker designs were well ahead of the times. A link below to his website:

A truly gifted man that never lost the desire or passion that this hobby brings to all of us. He will be sorely missed.

I worked with Louis on a number of geophysical products. He came into my office one day with a sketch of a hydrophone design and asked what I thought. I asked a number of questions and a big smile came across his face. He then proceeded to teach me about patent law and had me sign and date the sketch - and said that he would pursue a patent on that idea. He was a marvelous man, inventor, teacher and friend!

My first real stereo was LWE-III speakers driven by a Dynaco SCA-80 and a Garrard turntable with some sort of Shure cartride. The LWE-III were the ready to finish ones, which were great for a college student. People always noticed the feedback wires going back into the amp. The LWEs were really innovative. I always appreciated Louis's work.
Just saw a pair of "Erath II" loudspeakers for sale on ebay by someone who worked at Home Entertainment in Houston.
They look to be in remarkable condition, auction is over in about an hour.
