Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD

Hi All.

Putting together a reference level system.
My Source is predominantly standard 16/44 played from a MacMini using iTunes and Amarra. Some of my music is purchased from iTunes and the rest is ripped from standard CD's.
For my tastes in music, my high def catalogues are still limited; so Redbook 16/44 will be my primary source for quite some time.

I'm not spending DCS or MSB money. But $15-20k retail is not out of the question.

Upsampling vs non-upsampling?
USB input vs SPDIF?

All opinions welcome.

And I know I need to hear them, but getting these ultra $$$ DAC's into your house for an audition ain't easy.

Looking for musical, emotional, engaging, accurate , with great dimension. Not looking for analytical and sterile.

Accurate IS musical.

My $0.02, try the Nagra transport DAC combo with their own power supply. C'est Suisse et c'est tres tres precis.

Another example from analog, a two track half inch Studer A80 running Agfa 468 is flat from 20 to 20 Khz and is extremely musical. Extremely.
Chowkwan- good analog reel to reel is awesome! I’ve heard it many times.

I’ve heard Nagra and always liked it. It’s just hard to get a hold of to audition in house.
@chowkwan

I agree on most points. The Nagra is nice, but I prefer others with similar tech.

The new Marantz SA-KI Ruby is going to be the best bang for the buck.

Hello

It took me more than 10 hours to go through your threads.

But I enjoyed it very much.

Any update?

May I ask you what is your current Dac?

Have you had a chance to audition DCS Rossini?

If so, what is your opinion?

Have you heard MSB Technology Platinum DAC IV?

Used MSB Technology Platinum DAC IV is on sale at good price and I got temptation to get it?

thanks in advance

Thomas
