FWIW, I'm in the same situation. The ratio of albums screened to "must-buy-keepers" is large and getting larger; 25:1? 50:1?? more than that??? A SWAG with emphasis on guess.
Some of it is a function of getting older and, with enough mileage on the odometer now, finding many "new" things sound derivative and better done way earlier by someone else.
The browse/discover function of Spotify and the Similar Albums listings on the All Music Guide do help make the prospecting more productive.
