Classical Music for Aficionados
I would like to start a thread, similar to Orpheus’ jazz site, for lovers of classical music.
I will list some of my favorite recordings, CDs as well as LP’s. While good sound is not a prime requisite, it will be a consideration.
Classical music lovers please feel free to add to my lists.
Discussion of musical and recording issues will be welcome.
I’ll start with a list of CDs. Records to follow in a later post.
Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique. Chesky — Royal Phil. Orch. Freccia, conductor.
Mahler: Des Knaben Wunderhorn. Vanguard Classics — Vienna Festival Orch. Prohaska, conductor.
Prokofiev: Scythian Suite et. al. DG — Chicago Symphony Abbado, conductor.

Stravinsky: L’Histoire du Soldat. HDTT — Ars Nova. Mandell, conductor.

All of the above happen to be great sounding recordings, but, as I said, sonics is not a prerequisite.

Schubert, Nice headphones - I have a pair and use them often with my Marantz CDP which has a built in headphone outlet. I can see why you like them. I found they had a warmer mid range than my Senn's and were very easy to listen to and much more comfortable. But for my lazy bones I have set up a separate dedicated headphone system next to my listening chair, consisting of a MrSpeakers Mad Dogs headphones, a Woo3 tube amp, a Loki tone control, and a cheapo TEAC CDP. My hearing has probably gone to hell, but FWIW, I almost prefer this to my regular system. Sum of the parts and all that...but that is what it is and surprised the hell out of me. Pure chance. |
