petg60... What do you mean by "energetic?" Do you mean the signal sounds "faster" or do you mean more dynamic (wider range of volumes/signal variation)? Or both? Does one seem more "natural" to the sound source?
Difference in sound between Siemens e88cc and e188cc?
Interested in user experience with the Siemens e88cc and e188cc. In my rig the Siemens e88cc offers great detail, clarity, imaging, nauturalness and dynamics, but is far less tonally saturated than the Amperex e88cc. Is the Siemens e188cc (forget CCa -- $) better in that regard? How do the Siemens e88cc and e188cc differ in sound?

What audition__audio said, +1. I found the Siemens tubes, made after the early 60’s (silver shield / internal date code), to be brighter (bordering on stridency), in my system. To me; the absolute star of the Siemens 6922 line up, has to be the 1958, exterior and painted-on date code, solid-disc-getter, E88CC. Same wonderful clarity / detail / transparency, as the early 60’s, ECC88 / E188CC / CCa, with the grey shields and external, acid-etched date code, but- even better (more extended) bottom. |
HI, Mainly more energy in upper regions. Something else is the ECC88 having more energy on top, lighter bass, even some have better mids compared to their bigger cousins, but are more prone to noise have more hiss and you have to check they can withstand the supplied voltage in circuit otherwise they will fail quickly. |
